Patio UMBRELLA BASE
A patio umbrella base should be really heavy, which makes concrete the perfect material. It can be difficult to find an attractive base at the store, so we’ll show you how to cast one yourself.
•Start with the shape of the particle board. Saw a bottom and four side panels. We made our parasol base in a square shape.
•Nail the pieces together into a box.
•Cut a strip of wood, and nail it to the inside of the box at the preferred height. This will make a stylish edge at the top of the base.
•Tie a long rope into two loops. These will stick out from the concrete. Place the rope in the box. The loops will act as handles.
•Mix the concrete as described.
•Pour the concrete. Fill the box up to the wooden strip, and smooth the surface.
•Insert a plastic tube into the concrete, in the middle of the box. We used a piece of sewer pipe. This is where you will insert the umbrella.
•Ensure that the rope loops are correctly placed.
•Decorate with beautiful stones.
•Let the base cure and dry for at least twenty-four hours. Don’t place it in direct sunlight.
•For best results, spray the concrete with water a few times during the drying period.
•Remove the parasol base from the mold.
